(News) DATV to Broadcast Kim Hyun Joong Drama “City Conquest”

DATV has announced they will air the Kim Hyun Joong drama City Conquest this summer.

The program will be aired in July and features Kim Hyun Joong in the role of Baek Mi-reu, a young man who takes revenge on society after becoming bitter with his father for abandoning their family.

Though filming had begun and the drama was pre-sold to several different countries, it went unaired after KBS denied it a slot in their 2013 lineup. However, footage from the show was aired last October as part of the City Conquest Memorial Event put on by Henecia, the official fan club of KHJ.

The drama also features Jeong Yu-mi, star of the 2011 melodrama A Thousand Days’ Promise. When City Conquest was unable to secure a time slot, Jeong Yu-mi went on to accept a  lead role in the showWonderful Mama.

With the news that DATV will be airing City Conquest, the question that fans are asking is will they finish filming the television series now that it will be broadcast. However, no details have been announced at this time.

The SBS series Good Sunday—Barefoot Friends, in which the cast get along well with the natives of Indonesia, will be aired in May 12. In the series, the the cast are given the mission of living like the natives for 24 hours. To fulfill their mission, they visit a produce market in Yogyakarta at dawn. They try their hand at the work of carrying things piggyback, called gendong in the Indonesian language.

Wandering around the produce market, the barefoot friends compete against each other to get hired. Kim Hyun Joong and Yoon Si Yoon sing “GEE,” a Girl’s Generation song, and dance together to capture the attention of a girl who is the daughter of the owner of an apple shop. All the people laugh at them.

Barefoot Friends is a reality show that takes the cast (Kang Ho Dong, Yoon Jong Shin, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum Soo, Yoo Se Yoon, Yoon Si Yoon, Eun Hyuk of Super Junior, and UEE of Aftershool) to places around the world and has them try to live like the locals.

Barefoot Friends Struggles in the ratings battle

With an all-star cast and ‘nation’s MC’ Kang Ho Dong at the helm, SBS‘s newest variety program, ‘Barefoot Friends‘, has made quite a first impression with viewers. Taking its cast to Vietnam, they were given the mission to survive for 24 hours on only what they could earn through local means.

Unfortunately, the variety program still has a long way to go in the ratings field. Although it started off its first episode last week with ratings of 5.6%, today’s second episode saw a 0.5% decline, putting the ratings at a dismal 5.1%.

This low number puts ‘Barefoot Friends’ dead last among the Sunday variety programs. Moreover, it is also dragging down its fellow ‘Good Sunday‘ slot mate, ‘Running Man‘ – the two programs are evaluated together for overall ratings. Although ‘Running Man’ recorded the highest ratings of the night with 15.3%, combined ‘Good Sunday’ ratings were significantly less.

Its woes are a stark contrast with the recent surge of MBC Sunday variety. Both ‘Dad, Where Are You Going‘ and ‘Real Men‘ have gained both critical acclaim and viewers, with their latest episodes drawing 15.0% and 10.2&.

Meanwhile, KBS‘s Sunday variety block, ‘Happy Sunday‘, remained in the doldrums with 9.3%.
